How Google Buzz is Disruptive: Open Data Standards

ReadWriteWeb

It will compete with Facebook and Twitter. Under the covers, though, this major product was built by a team of people taking a radical new approach to online publishing: Buzz is all about open, standardized user data.

Google Buzz data...

Last week, it announced a partnership with Bravo, the style and fashion-centric television network, and today it has come out with a partnership with Zagat, the restaurant guide, and the New York Times.

As we wrote last week, Foursquare is competing in an...

Readers: Get your Buzz on

Official Google Reader Blog

We know that many people like Reader because it makes it so easy to share interesting stuff with a wide group of friends. That's why, over the past year, we've added a number of features to help you share the content you find most interesting: comments, following, people search, liking, and "send to."

Abandoned Images - Berlin

While most talk about the future of film centers on technology, copyright and piracy, Berlin-based author Stephen Barber looks back at the tradition of the cinematic experience for the moviegoer as a means of previewing future film habits.

For his latest book Abandoned Images (2010), Barber photographed a series of rundown (and many disused) film theaters in Los Angeles, each originally built i...

How to split up the US

PeteSearch

Finalmap

As I've been digging deeper into the data I've gathered on 210 million public Facebook profiles, I've been fascinated by some of the patterns that have emerged. My latest visualization shows the information by location, with connections drawn between places that share friends. For example, a lot of people in LA have friends in San Francisco, so there's a line between them.

Looking at the...

Mike Ratcliffe is globetrotting and kindly sent us his favourite sign, which he spotted in the Washington DC area.

Probably the absolute worst name they could have granted this place. [thanks Mike]

LA Zombie: The Movie That Would Not Die

we make money not art

43k
Who would have thought i'd end up blogging about a splatter movie on wmmna? I'm not talking about any horror movie, i'm talking "gay-porn zombie film", a genre which i assume is under-represented in contemporary art. Written and directed by Bruce LaBruce and starring porn actor François Sagat, LA Zombie is on view at the Peres Projects gallery in Berlin, along with a dozen new works on c...
